Dedicated to exhibiting and researching the regional decorative arts of the early South, it has 24 period rooms and six galleries – and showcases furniture, paintings, textiles, ceramics, silver, and other metal wares, made and used in Maryland, Virginia, the Carolinas, Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee through 1820.
The Old Salem Children's Museum This hands-on “fun space” is designed especially for children ages 4-9 (and young-at-heart adults) to play and learn. The museum features a child-size Miksch House, a secret tunnel, a marble roll, and a two-story, climbing sculpture. For more fun, children can have a profile drawn, and try on historical costumes.
The Old Salem Toy Museum
A vast and exciting collection of antique toys that spans a wide range of time and place. The collection features toys, dolls, and miniatures from Europe and America, dating from the third century. With more than 1,200 antique toys, including a small, rare group of Moravian toys, it is considered one of the world's most prestigious toy collections. [Top]
Tannenberg Organ
Built in 1799-1800 by David Tannenberg, this large pipe organ was removed from Home Moravian Church in 1910 and lovingly restored over a period of 100 years. It lives in the Old Salem Visitor Center, and has been returned to its original state, musically and visually.
Home Moravian Church
Located on the north-east corner of Salem Square in the historic district of Old Salem (the restored 1766 Moravian town), the Home Moravian Church was built around 1799. The church has been in continuous use, except during times of renovation, since 1800. [Top]
